Estrogens Receptors-New Players in Spermatogenesis
نویسنده
چکیده مقاله:
The mammalian testis is a complex organ that serves two important functions, synthesis of steroids, with significant amount of estrogenic hormones produced and production of spermatozoa. Estrogen receptors (ERs) are expressed in cells of the testis as well as the epididymal epithelium. We have demonstrated that estrogen receptor expression is higher in reproductive tissues as compared to non-reproductive tissues. In addition to this, western blot analysis showed a signal for estrogen receptor.

Estrogens: new players in spermatogenesis.
Aromatase that irreversibly transforms androgens into estrogens is present in the smooth endoplasmic reticulum of nearly all cell types in the mammalian testis. In rodents, all testicular cells except for myoid cells express aromatase activity. We have demonstrated the presence of the functional aromatase (transcript or protein, and biological activity) in adult rat germ cells including pachyte...

The mammalian testis serves two main functions: production of spermatozoa and synthesis of steroids; among them, estrogens are the end products obtained from the irreversible transformation of androgens by aromatase. The aromatase is encoded by a single gene (cyp19) in humans which contains 18 exons, 9 of them being translated. In rat the aromatase activity is mainly located in Sertoli cells of...
متن کاملRole of estrogens in spermatogenesis.
Aromatase converts irreversibly androgens into estrogens and is present in the endoplasmic reticulum of various cells of mammalian testes ; at least in rodents, all testicular cells except peritubular cells express aromatase. In testis, high affinity estrogen receptors, ERalpha and/or ERbeta, together with a membrane rapid effect recently described, mediate the effects of estrogens. From the ex...

Angiotensin (Ang) II exerts its important physiological functions through 2 distinct receptor subtypes, type 1 (AT(1)) and type 2 (AT(2)) receptors. Recently, new evidence has accumulated showing the existence of several novel receptor interacting proteins and various angiotensin II receptor activation mechanisms beyond the classical actions of receptors for Ang II. These associated proteins co...

Large-scale genetic screens of tumor samples have provided an ideal mechanism for the identification of genes that contain driver mutations in various tumor types, including melanoma, and offer a plethora of information with regard to potential novel drug candidates. Recent reports on exome sequencing and large-scale mutational screening of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) in melanoma tumor ...

A major challenge in clinical management of prostate cancer (PC) is to limit tumor growth and prevent metastatic spreading. Considerable efforts have been made to discover new compounds for PC therapy and recent years have seen promising progress in this field. Pharmacological approaches have been designed to achieve benefits in PC treatment and avoid the negative side effects resulting from ad...
